Suriya plays Sanjay Vishwanath, a 42-year-old man who has no interest in getting married. His mother, Nirmala Devi, played by Radhika Sarathkumar, wants him to settle down and lead a family life. Their relationship becomes one of the important parts of the film.
Sanjay later becomes a father through surrogacy. However, when the baby develops a serious health problem, the doctors reveal that the biological match from the surrogate mother is needed for the treatment. This situation forces Sanjay to travel abroad in search of the surrogate mother.
There, he meets Maddy, played by Mamitha Baiju, a 22-year-old Tamil-speaking girl who was born and brought up abroad. Maddy is an orphan who dreams of becoming a doctor. Due to financial difficulties, she chooses surrogacy. Sanjay brings her to India, but his mother initially refuses to accept her.
As Nirmala Devi slowly understands Maddy’s situation, her attitude begins to change. The relationship between Sanjay, Maddy, the baby, and Nirmala Devi becomes the emotional heart of the film. The story also raises questions about marriage, parenthood and whether a person can truly separate love and family from personal choices.
Suriya delivers a mature and controlled performance as Sanjay. He does not depend heavily on fights, loud dialogues or typical mass moments. Instead, he uses his expressions, body language and natural reactions to show the character’s emotions. His performance works especially well in the emotional and family-oriented scenes.
Mamitha Baiju is one of the major attractions of the film. She brings freshness to the character of Maddy through her lively performance, expressions, and innocent charm. Her natural screen presence makes the character easy to connect with, and she shares a good emotional space with Suriya.
Radhika Sarathkumar gives a convincing performance as Nirmala Devi. She effectively shows the different sides of a mother who can be loving, emotional, angry, and understanding. Her character also gets a meaningful change as she begins to understand Maddy and the situation around her.
Raveena Tandon is a welcome addition to the cast, while Sunil provides humour and brings some lighter moments to the film. The supporting actors contribute well to the overall family atmosphere without taking attention away from the main story.
Director and writer Venky Atluri deserves appreciation for choosing a different subject and presenting it through a family drama. The film focuses on modern relationships and the changing mindset of young people. It also attempts to balance emotional moments with humour and lighter scenes.
G.V. Prakash Kumar’s music suits the film’s emotional and pleasant mood. Nimish Ravi’s cinematography gives the film a polished visual look, while Navin Nooli’s editing keeps most of the story moving smoothly. However, the second half feels slightly lengthy, and the pace slows down in a few portions.
Overall, Vishwanath And Sons is a simple, emotional, and modern family drama with strong performances and a different storyline. Suriya, Mamitha Baiju and Radhika Sarathkumar are the main strengths of the film, while the technical work supports the story well. Though the second half could have been tighter, the film offers a warm and thoughtful look at relationships, family and the choices people make in modern life.
