The actress takes a nostalgic trip down memory lane as the Celebrity MasterChef Tamil kitchen celebrates the flavours and traditions of Diwali

Some flavours have the power to instantly take you back to childhood, and for Samantha Ruth Prabhu, it is the humble adhirasam that brings back some of her sweetest memories. On an upcoming Diwali special episode of Sony VIZHA’s Celebrity MasterChef Tamil, Samantha gets nostalgic as she recalls saving up as a child just to enjoy a ₹1 adhirasam from outside her home.

Produced by Endemol Shine India, Celebrity MasterChef Tamil brings the globally celebrated MasterChef format to Tamil audiences with a mix of culinary challenges, celebrity personalities and memorable conversations. In the upcoming episode, the kitchen gears up for a special Diwali Palagaram challenge, celebrating the snacks and sweets synonymous with the festival. The contestants are tasked with creating a festive gift box featuring four dishes in just 90 minutes, with a mix of sweet and savoury preparations and at least one sweet made without refined sugar.

As conversations turn to the palagarams everyone associates with Diwali, Samantha reveals that adhirasam is one of her favourites. Taking a trip down memory lane, she shares how, as a young girl, she would save money to buy a ₹1 adhirasam from outside her house and enjoy it regularly something she says she can no longer do today.

The conversation also sees Chef Venkatesh Bhat reminiscing about his childhood Diwali celebrations, recalling how crackers and food were the highlights of the festival and how Diwali palagarams would continue at his home right up to Karthigai Deepam. He names adhirasam and dry-fruit mixture among his own festive favourites.

With contestants going on to recreate everything from Mysore pak and murukku to somas, seedai and inventive contemporary treats, the episode turns into a celebration of not just festive food, but also the memories and emotions attached to recipes and flavours that have been part of Diwali celebrations over the years.

Watch Celebrity MasterChef Tamil, Monday to Friday at 8 PM on Sony VIZHA and stream anytime on Sony LIV.
