Written and directed by Jithu Madhavan, Scene is a crime investigation thriller starring Suriya in the lead role. The film is produced by Suriya, Jyothika and Jaishree Damodaran under the banners of Zhagaram Studios and 2D Entertainment. Shakthi Film Factory has acquired the distribution rights. The music is composed by Sushin Shyam. The film was released on November 6, 2026, with a runtime of 149 minutes.
Suriya plays DSP Inbaraj, popularly known as Inba, a police officer who has his own style of handling cases. Naslen plays Eeswaran, while Nazriya Nazim appears as Maya. Anandaraj plays Irudhayaraj, Inba’s father, and Lal appears as Stephen. Rajpriyan and Suresh Mathiyalagan play police inspectors Sibi and Vinoth, respectively. Gajaraj plays Manohar, Maya’s father. Tovino Thomas appears as Victor in a special role, while Jyothika makes a special appearance as Maya in Inba’s imagination.
The story revolves around Inbaraj, a police officer known for solving several cases through his unusual investigation methods. Unlike a regular cop who follows the usual procedures, Inba has his own approach to finding the truth. His character brings a different flavour to the investigation, and Suriya carries the role with confidence. However, having a unique style of investigation does not automatically make every scene equally interesting.
Things take an interesting turn when Inbaraj is assigned a particular crime investigation project. Meanwhile, he repeatedly submits his resignation letter to his senior officer, but the officer refuses to accept it. Now, the real question is why Inba is so determined to leave the police department. What is the connection between his personal reason and the case he is investigating? Does he finally solve the mystery? These questions form the central part of the film.
Coming to the performances, Suriya is the major attraction of the film. He handles the police character with his usual screen presence and energy. Naslen brings his own charm to the film, while Nazriya Nazim adds freshness to her role. Anandaraj and Lal provide good support through their performances. Tovino Thomas makes his special appearance interesting, and Jyothika’s appearance adds another surprise. The supporting actors also do their part in taking the story forward.
On the technical side, Jithu Madhavan’s writing and direction bring a strong Malayalam flavour throughout the film. Sushin Shyam’s music supports the mood of the story, while the technical presentation gives the film a decent thriller atmosphere. However, the screenplay could have been tighter in certain portions. At 149 minutes, the film feels longer than necessary, and some scenes do not add much value to the main investigation.
Overall, Scene has an interesting police character, a different investigation style and a few engaging moments. But the film also has scenes that make us wonder whether they were really necessary. With Suriya’s screen presence and a strong supporting cast, the film has its moments, but the screenplay does not maintain the same level of interest throughout. The title promises a lot of scenes, but unfortunately, not every scene deserves our attention. A crime thriller that has its own style, but could have used a little more focus and a little less screen time.
Verdict: A different investigation style, but not every scene is worth investigating!
