Pookie is the second film of actor Ajay Dhishan after Maargan. Directed by Ganesh Chandra, the film is a romantic drama that revolves around a six-year relationship between Kailash and Aazhi. The word “Pookie” is a sweet nickname often used between lovers and close friends as a term of affection. The story focuses on love, ego problems, misunderstandings, and the emotional distance that slowly grows between the couple.

The film begins with a public argument between Kailash and Aazhi, which goes viral on social media. Their frequent fights clearly show their differences in thinking and lifestyle. Kailash’s likes become Aazhi’s dislikes, and her choices do not match his expectations. As the misunderstandings increase, they decide to break up and move on with new partners. The film mainly explores whether they can truly forget each other and live peacefully without their shared memories.

Ajay Dhishan looks confident and stylish in this film and shows improvement in his screen presence. However, the script does not fully support his performance, and his character could have been written with more emotional depth. His performance in the emotional scenes is decent. R. K. Dhanusha makes a sincere debut and performs naturally in her romantic role. Actor Pandiaraja, as the father, brings maturity and stability to the film with a convincing performance. Sunil appears in a few scenes as a spiritual guru, adding a different shade to the story.

Director Ganesh Chandra handles the first half in an energetic and engaging manner, especially in the scenes that highlight the couple’s conflicts. The emotional build-up in the early portions works well. However, the second half feels slow and slightly stretched, which reduces the overall impact. A tighter screenplay and sharper narration could have made the film more effective.

Vijay Antony serves as both producer and music director under the banners Vijay Antony Film Corporation and A Fatima Vijay Antony Company, presented by Meera Vijay Antony. The music stands out as one of the film’s strengths. The songs are catchy, and Vijay Antony’s on-screen appearance in one of the tracks adds energy. His attempt at a new musical style brings freshness to the soundtrack. Overall, Pookie is a simple romantic drama about love and ego clashes, but it would have been more impactful with a stronger and more engaging second half.
